I have been trying to search around but dont get much info and when i call there numbers on the sites, they are just to do an application on the phone..
Im trying to figure out roughtly what it takes to qualify, to much money or to little, what general credit score do you need to have. Will they cover any type of schooling?
Basically Im looking to become a firefighter. With the market the way it is, I can BARELY work enough to pay the bills on time so paying for school up front is pretty much out of the question. I would only need roughly 2000 for the schooling. If its possibly I would probably consider getting mroe to help pay my bills so I can go full time. If was able to go full time It should only take me 6 months or so to finish school and hopefully not that much longer to actually get hired (less then a year all together i am hoping). Would they offer a loan for that type of school? Also, do you think they would loan enough to pay 2-3 months bills so i could go full time???
Sorry to ask here, I just am not getting very far on there web sites and stuff.

they all say they go by how much the school costs to get up to the 40k. I would just need like 6 including enough to pay bills with the school.

I think student loans only cover accredited programs. You need to make sure firefighting school falls into that category.
Have you considered a personal loan or credit card?

Yeah, check to see if your program is accredited. If so, fill out a FAFSA.

thats the main thing i was wondering, if my classes would be coverd.
I haven't really thought about the personal loan thing. For some reason, credit card company's don't seem to like me. I have done several app's over the last couple years and have only gotten 1. My fiance on the other hand, who has a credit score 75 pts lower then mine, can get them just fine :dunno:. Anyways, my limit is only 1k which wont cover much of anything.
How hard is it to get a personal loan? my credit isnt bad, I just dont have much of it (about to turn 21 next weekend). I do have a house, car and credit card which all have perfect payment history though.

that salliemae loan is more like a personal loan instead of a student loan. but yea see if you can get the fafsa to pay for some, apply for grants and whatnot

where do you apply for grants and stuff? I havent ever even looked into it or cared to. If it has anything to do with my highschool gpa then thats a waste of time (2.3)

That's what the FAFSA is for.. student loans and grants. Here's the website http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ Check the dealines, each state is different. And it has nothing to do with you HS GPA :) Good luck!

What parts don't you understand? I've done this plenty of times, maybe I can help you out.
What the application is basically your tax return info from 2007. And if you're a dependent student, which I think you are since you are only 21, you must provide your parent's info too. (which I think is lame)
After your info is processed, they give you an EFC - expected family contribution. Don't worry too much about this number. If it's low enough, you will get grants. If your income is over that limit, you are still eligible to get plenty of loan money!

If your parents make a lot of money then your fucked with the grants, unless your over the age of like 24 or something. I was living with my mother, she made 30k a year and i couldnt get a grant!

i claim myself, im almost 21 with my own house, cars and im engaged. I dont make that much money any more either..
shit last year, I technically made 700 dollars. In reality I probably made a little under 20k though. As I said, times are rough and thats why im looking to go back to school :)

Unfortunately it doesn't matter whether you live with your parents or not. They want your parent's info until you are 24 or 25.. which is why I think it is lame!

Fafsa is not for loans, just financial aid, and like everyone else said the fafsa website is useless unless your 25 and making shit money. If your parents make ok money you probably wont qualify for any grants either.
I would think your best bet is to go with a Staford loan. You can get one from just about any bank (im sure its easy to qualify, i know tons of friends with shit credit who have student loans). Payments and interest are deferred till 6 months after graduation IIRC (you may even qualify for govt to pay interest on the loan).

thats what I would prefer, if all I can get is the school, then Ill just have to do the fire acadamy part time, I really dont want that but there are only so many options..

Oh, if you just want money for school, you can apply for any staford loan, just goto a few local banks and pick the best one, just make sure that you dont have to pay it back untill after school, and that it doesnt build interest untill after school.

im going to go into a few banks and compare between a stafford loan and a personal and what would be best for me..The stafford will be nice to not have to pay untill after school but it means my school is going to take much longer since I wouldnt only be able to do the fire acadamy 2 days a week instead of the full time 4 days.
A personal would be nice to go full time and just use some loan money to pay my bills for the 3-4 months.....
Actually, this just came to mind as I was typing. one worry with the personal is that I wouldnt get approved. I have a mid 600 score but my integra is paid off, worst case I could just get a loan on it I would assume, or use it as collateral :dunno:
