That's pretty insane. The guy in the first video almost makes it look easy.

Those are some really wide stances.

Having your knees wrapped up like that is pretty insane, a blow out with that much weight would pretty much ruin your next 5 to 10 years wouldn't it?

knee wraps just help the explosiveness out of the hole.

if youve ever seen a powerlifter squat, they sit back alot, instead of breaking at the knees, which takes alot of the stress off your knee joints and places it on your hips, which is a much stronger fulcrom. I hope that make sense. When i wake up, ill post a side angle video of Mike schwanke doing his 1003 squat.

Plus, the stronger you are the less injury prone you become. Thats why NFL athletes can take a constant abuse like they do and get up after every hit, whereas a normal guy would be down for the count

hope this works.. Mike schwanke, same lift, different angle. see how he sits back and take the weight off of his knees and places it on his hips/posterior chain?

Jesus. Pretty crazy weight.

Questions: Is spreading your legs apart way past the width of your shoulders poor technique? I always thought and was told it was. And in this case considered cheating? The wider you spread your legs, the less you have to actually bend over to pick up 600 lbs. and properly execute a dead lift. No?

I didn't bother with the second video...But on the first one WTF is up with the ROM on those squats? I mean I do not know the rules or regulation on the form to maintain on those but i could add 300 pounds to my squats if I only squatted down 4 inches.

Mike. Its all personal preference. Sumo style deadlifting places alot of the strain on your glute/ham quad and instead of using all posterior chain. Some do it conventional, some dont. Neither way is "cheating" They are still picking 600+ lbs of dead weight off the ground at a very low body weight. with squating, a wider stance is much more stable and you can create more power by pushing your knees out instead of in or up( as you do with a close stance) alot of these guy are handling over a half ton on thier back and they need a stable stance or they wont be able to balance themselves and complete the lift. hope that clears it up

Ryan, Range of motion is dependant on your body type. shorter people will have less range of motion than a taller person. the squater in the first video(brian schwab) is only 5'5" i believe. the rules state that the hip joint has to travel below the knee. It doesnt matter how far the bar travels, as long as the hip becomes parallel. You forget that this man had 5 times his body weight on his back and completed an official squat( verified by certified judges) in a competition. Im not sure what you actually squat b/c i have never seen (in person or in video) you squat before. what i am sure is that you, nor me or anyone on this website can squat 5 times there body weight, b/c if so, I would know who you are.
