Oh my god, those are gorgeous photos! I love that place for photography. One of the swans tried to attack me though. How did you get the colors so vibrant??? They are really outstanding, especially the macro ones like the Green Anole.

Thanks everyone.

Regina, those Swans attacked my lens a few times going for the shot. ;)
The colors came from post processing saturation.

i can't really differentiate between color noise that you get from jacking around your saturation/vibrance/whatever else and luminance noise, is why i ask. definitely a lot of something going on in quite a few of those photos.

i really dig the shot of the statue. the lighting definitely helped out a lot on that one.

I guess I really need to play around in PS a bit more to see what I can do.

They are violent winged creatures, huh?!

I love Bok Tower!! It's so beautiful there!

Your pictures are amazing, Jedd!! Even the spider ones from what I could tell as I quickly scrolled past them because they make my skin crawl.

ISO was 800 and it was a little overcast, other then that I really don't what else I'm doing, still learning a lot.

a good trick on overcast days to try sometime, is take it outta auto white balance and goto cloudy. it gives everything a nice warming affect and really does make the colors pop on their own.

Jedd man, good stuff! Seriously I love those shots. Bok is really cool, and I gotta check that place out again. Ever been to Spook Hill? I like the 2nd and 3rd sunflower photos the best out of all of the flower photos. I almost didn't notice the bee in it either :) The Anole or Chameleon is really cool as well as the swans too.

Thanks again everyone.

My Massa IR Filter comes in two weeks. I'm going to head back out there when I get it and try for some shots with a Tim Burton vibe.

how much was it? Ive been dying to get into IR but from what ppl have said its kinda pointless with just the filters. I've been so wanting to get a spare digi body and having it sent off and having the IR cutoff filter removed

Ty all.

So my IR filter came in yesterday and i'm confused on how to use it. Is it supposed to be jet black? I don't see how light can enter.

Mars_302
08-13-2008, 08:28 AM
yea all the ones ive seen are that way. Id imagine youd have to compose everything without it, install it and see how it goes.

Banksy

I've been looking around and it appears on most DSLR, you'll have to hard-mod the light sensor to make it capable of detecting IR light. I'll try setting a higher ISO, 20sec exposure and a tripod to see if it picks anything up. If not, anyone wanna buy an IR filter? ;)

dyi if you wanna get ballsy and do it yourself or have someone else do it.

Yea i'm not too comfortable messing with something I already know little about. Hopefully the long exposure, tripod and ISO trick works. If not, that and $50 for your Tokina? :)

Mars_302
08-13-2008, 04:30 PM
temting cause I could use the money, but if its not going to work for you, it wont work for me either unless I remove the internal IR filter as well. Thought you had a nikon anyway

Banksy
08-13-2008, 05:39 PM
Woot! Got it working. Just needed a longer exposure time.

Here's a quick one I did in the back yard.
Once I get some better scenery i'll apply this false colour bit I read about.

id totally bring the ISO back down, turn on the camera noise reduction and set it to bulb mode with the remote. other than the noise its cool, I always loved the stark whites of IR photos

Banksy
08-13-2008, 06:21 PM
200? 400?

Mars_302
08-13-2008, 07:23 PM
me personally id probably just do 100 and do a 30 second exposure and see how it comes out. Though id make sure it was a windless day
