then came the lens i have always wanted but never got the chance to purchase. Some wedding photog gave me a steal on it... 250 shipped and pp.

Where did you get the softboxes at that price? As well, Why the grid? I understand It may make a window looking affect on shiny objects...maybe?

makes the light a bit more directional than it normally is coming out of silk/diffusion.
