So I've been shooting with the Rebel EOS 2000 that's about 7 years old and I'm not very impressed with it at all.
First it always scratches the entire length of the film negative and I can't find whats gouging it. Second, the photos aren't very crisp. 3rd, it has a very bulky plastic shutter and an extremely light plastic body. Since the shutter moves vertically, you get A LOT of shutter torque.

Canon A1, circa 1978. I think it's my new favorite film toy and I have only put a new battery in it. Haven't even loaded the film.
With a heavier body and a horizontal slide cloth shutter system you don't feel even the faintest twitch when you push the button. The shutter button feels more solid too. Like it's impossible to move the camera when you depress it. The only drawback I can see with this camera is the 1/60 flash sync, but I'm not using flash.

So time to load the film and play with some FD lenses.

Good luck and more power to you. The days of film are over for me. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to stab myself for ruining my negatives in the black bag trying to get them out of the casing. Then if I didn't ruin them in the first step I'd certainly fuck them up in the chemical developing process. I loved the darkroom and having the feeling of developing my own picture, but I love the simplicity of digital. I'll probably never go back.

I refuse to sell my old Nikon sitting next to my desk so I guess I won't say never.

I still have my old film stuff, probably because its borderline worthless. It was fun doing nighttime and long exposure stuff back before the mainstream digital cameras had the ability. We should get a 'show us your old film scans' thread going.

Dump that Rebel. I had a Rebel S II and an Elan 7E. I dumped them both recently. You can pick up a used EOS 3 or EOS 1n for only a couple hundred dollars. If you have to shoot film, pick one up. For a couple hundred more you can get a 1V which was the ultimate film camera. Its fucking stupid to get something as old as an AE1. No autofocus, shitty or no metering, etc

I don't care for auto focus right now. I have my digital for they easy way out. I'm doing film to actually learn photography.

My rebel actually came apart today. I was taking the 75-200 lens of it to put on the digi and shit just started falling out of the body

I love the feel of the A1 but need to learn how to read the viewfinder display :gordy:

Dont spend too much on glass if you use the old FD mount lenses, they are about fucking worthless if you ever try to sell them

That's why they go from $50-$125. I was thinking about getting some old tubes and put them on a pretty nice macro I have thats a 25-80mm. I do want to get and FD tilt shift lens and buy the ring adapter for my rebel xt before spending $1200 on the canon tilt shift L lens.

Either way my dad bought the A1 new back in 79. I don't think it will be put on the shelf anytime soon. It just went through a cleaning and got new seals not too long ago. He bought my grandpa the AE1 back in the early 80s and my grandpa still uses it to this day with a passion.

Oh, I'm not asking for what I should buy. If I'm going to buy film, it's probably going to be an old medium format camera. I was just giving a short little review about how most new cameras suck ass in build quality.
