Ford (F) : Should I buy more? I bought a measly 40 shares at 2.11 and I don't see them failing as I think the gov't will just keep bailing them out as they are an "American" legend.

And

Talbots Inc. (TLB) : What do you think of this company? Will it last through the hard retail times? They are selling another brand (JJill) they bought almost 2 years ago now to stop the bleeding of cash..

Out of these 2, which would you buy?

anheuser busch was "American" too...

I say don't buy Ford.... Ford cars are no more American then Honda.

It will only be a matter of a few years when the Japanese auto makers will employ more Americans then the "American" auto makers, thus I say fuck 'em.

If you are investing because of the govt HAH that is a sad thing. Look just because the govt bails them out doesn't mean people are going to buy their vehicles. Also, the govt DOES NOT have the best interest for share holders. DOES NOT DOES NOT DOES NOT!

Also, Fannie and Freddie were bailed out. Where is there stock? .68 and .30 respectivally?

Come on man. Invest in strong companys with a good dividend and strong FREE cash flow.

and if you want something as risky as F probably LESS risky would be USG. That is speculative because they need to meet a requirement with JP Morgan of cash on the balance sheet. They are the low cost producer and have a strong brand name. It is wall board not SHEETROCK that everybody calls it. Nevertheless, everybody calls it SHEETROCK, which is a USG brand.

good luck.

Hell if you have the money go with BRK-A or BRK-B. I own some BRK-B myself to take advantage of the collapse or market share loss of AIG

I'd say hold off on both for now. I still think the current price for F will go down further because of the whole possible government bailout. Technically F doesn't even need the damned money, but if Uncle Sam is going to be handing out buckets full of it, I can see why they wouldn't mind being there to receive it.

Stay from clothing at the moment. If you do want to buy, wait until 4th quarter results are released. I see this holiday's shopping season results going to be worse than expected.

Here are my picks at the moment...

GE
KFT

Just curious but why do you guys say to stay away from clothing companies?

I don't see the problem in the risk as long as they will be around afterwards, the stock will rise and some amazing gains will be seen..

Same with Forid, remember, it's not the first time our automakers were bailed out.. They were bailed, then rebounded, and their stock rose and I'm sure the people that bought rediculously low saw some great gains.

I guess at this point since I am not really investing a whole lot of $$$, I feel like I don't mind a little risk.

Because I believe clothing companies are fads. VWhat is "in style" now won't be in style later.

Because I believe the results of this year's holiday shopping are going to be lower than everyone's expectations. The results are probably going to freak the market out. Wait until results are out.

VF owns the Nautica and North Face brands, which to me are more of a luxury brand. Nice, but not a necessity. For example, most of Nautica's shirts start at like $50, but they're on sale now for $12.99 (Old Navy territory). Other brands and companies with the same sort of base aren't doing too well either.

Long term, they'll be good buys. But not for the short term. At least not yet anyways.

They aren't THAT high end. High end is more MACYS and NORDSTROM

ALso, the reason why is they see LEE and WRANGLER which are sold at walmart. Walmart is doing very well.

Also, they own VANS, and backpacks jansport and eastpak and REEF
