I have an HD projection tv thats fuckin up and Im hopin its like a $100 fix or something. Some friend of mine said if I had a degaussing gun it would work. I didnt even know they amde such a thing.
Basically the color is off. Looks like red is where is supposed to be but green and blue, or just green, or just blue is off. Like all pin cushiony. Can anyone help me?

in the back there are 3 lenses, you can adjust them. reg green and blue. Either a bulb is going out a lens is bad or the array is missaligned. Degausing rings only work on CRTs lol Your friends an idoit

so when I go into convergence I only get a red and a blue option. The blue wont move anymore, the red is adjustable. When I go into this mode where Im supposed to be able to adjust either color, is the color that Im adjusting to the green?
If so, the Green is out of whack as well as the blue.
After doing quite a bit of reading it seems like Im going to have to replace my IC convergence blah blah whatever. $300 - $400.
My question is, can I just open this bitch up and play with my broken stuff in there till the image looks ok and live with it?
I got this TV for free, I can spend money on it, but if I can improve it right now without buying anything I'd rather just do that.

My knowledge basically goes as far as "if my TV stops working, I probably need a new one".

It's definitely not a bulb. Post a picture of the screen, if you want, so we know what you're seeing.

if he has no red then yes it could be a bulb if he has a multi bulb system

Ill post a picture when I get home.
I see red, reds in the spot its supposed to be. Its The other color thats all convexed out.
Ill take pics of the convergence screen, an in game screen, and a cable screen. I almost went into the 56 point till I read it might make it harder on the tech that fixes it.

If you do need a repairman, I'd suggest this guy...

I had him fix a 36" that I got for free and he only charged me like $80 for fixing all the dry soldering that one of the boards had. He does projection televisions as well.

I doubt it, usually in a multi bulb projection system the bulbs are alternated to reduce stress and heat build up on one individual lamp, however each lamp shines through the same light box, hitting the same panels/mirrors. The lamp is merely a light source, it contains no color information. If the lamp were hitting different panels, or, one lamp for each panel, than yes, it could technically be something wrong with one light path, but I still doubt the actual lamp would be causing the issue.
edit: if he had no red, and each panel had it's own lamp, than yes you're correct, I was going back to the OP's problem, in which he still sees all the color information
