I have leftover money that I had set aside for a car but I ended up spending less then I thought. I figured now would be a good time to get in on some long term investments. Ive never purchased stocks before, so from what I know a mutual fund would probably be best for me as far as diversification with little $$$. Ive also had these stocks in my phone that I have been watching based on info I found on the web

BAC
GOOG
AAPL
NRG
GE
KFT

Im working with about $800 for now. Any first timer suggestions? Or should I start a Roth IRA

First question.

How many months of living expenses do you have in an easily accessible account?

KFT the less volatile and pays a nice dividend.

Months of living expenses?Im about to quit my job and I still would basically have an indefinite amount of months for living expenses. Gas is about $45 a month, food maybe $100......and thats about it!
