View Full Version : Most important offseason needs for the Bucs

No matter what they do in the playoffs or if they miss the playoffs I will not change my opinion on this.
#1 need: The bucs MUST go after at least one if not TWO big time DT's. The defense fell apart near the end of the season for two reasons. No pass rush and an inability to stop the run without playing 8 in the box. This all starts at the DT position.
#2 Assuming Garcia is out we need a QB who can connect on deep routes and protect the ball from turnovers. Mobility would also be a plus. Sigh, like we are going to find that... Accuracy and ball protection are most important though.
#3 Resign Jermaine Phillips. Piscatelli sucks but is great on special teams. Maybe in a few years he can step up but so far, when Phillips is out of the game, the bucs defense suffers greatly.
#4 I am going to go with popular belief here and say that Galloway will be released even though he played the whole game against the chargers(wierd). The bucs will resign Antonio Bryant. The only other receiver I can see them resigning is Clayton. But they are going to have a need for quite a few receivers. They still have Dexter Jackson but he sucked at kick returning, and probably sucks as a receiver.
#5 the glazers spend money for good coaches and good staff. They will find a good replacement for Monte. What does this mean though for the teams direction? With Monte gone, will they start ignoring the defensive needs and stocking up on offensive talent so Gruden can finally have his toys? I wouldn't doubt this happening. Personally I love defense and don't want it too though.
What do you guys think?

1. Wide reciver either draft or free agency, were one or two big play guys away from a great offense
2.Cornerback, cause ronde makes good plays but has been getting burned lately so he is probably gonna retire at the end of the season and aqib talib is obviously next in line for #1 but that leaves us out for a number 2 guy
3. a big guy to clog up the middle of the dline and a bgood end to work opoosite gaines adams, we havent been putting pressure on the qb enough
4. get rid of gruden, terrible play caller and hasnt aquired a qb to build a franchise around yet
5 QB garcia is good but he just doesnt have what it takes tot ake a team all the way

Defense-centric draft.
Haynesworth, McNabb, Houshmendzada.
Those would be some "Tiger Woods" type free agents that we were promised last offseason.

1. fire gruden
2. cut clayton
3. cut piscatelli, buchannon, barber, brooks - they are done
in that order

especially buchannon....fucker gets burnt on every down

I'm sorry people are not watching if they think Buchanon gets burnt on every play. He has actually been having a great season. He had a bad game, Ronde has had more of them this year. Piscatelli will not be cut. He is too young and still has some talent and he can improve.

Buchannon has been torched the last three games on nearly every down....

Ryan had 206 yards passing and no TDs. When and where was Buchanon getting torched in that game guy?
Delhomme had 173 yards and a TD. The TD and bulk of the yards were given up to Steve Smith WHO RONDE BARBER was covering, not P. Cannon.
Like I said, some of you are not watching these games.

we need a good #2 receiver. housh would be nice, but i don't see the bucs shelling out the kind of money they'd need to in order to sign him. a QB is obviously a big need as well. and i agree on a DT, though i'd probably just take one in the first and work him in to the rotation with hovan and haye. when those 2 are healthy, the bucs do a great job of stopping the run... unfortunately, if they're not healthy, we don't have anyone behind them who can step in and play the entire game in their place (ryan sims is obviously not an every down player. if he's not used sparingly, he goes from not too shabby to pretty rough, and quickly).
buchanon gave up some big plays, but on one route, he fell as the receiver did his cut in his route. barber has made up for his stuff with a few picks and good plays, but i feel he's been burnt more.
ahhh i would love to see the bucs pick up george selvie. he'd go really nicely with gaines adams, two fast DEs who could wreak havoc for the o-lines.
i think it should be a defensive-centric draft again. solidify the d-line with more pass rush, pick up some younger talent to help solve the age problem - who knows if barber or brooks will be back, and if so for how long.
i'd still like to see them promote the guy who was under kiffin (morris?). i think he's seen the success of kiffin's style of defense, and would continue it. if he's been taught by the master, why not keep doing what works. just needs to talent to make it work as good as it used to.
as much as i hate mcnabb, he's about the only quarterback that would meet gruden's age requirement, and can pass and scramble, but he's so prone to f'ing it up bad when he shouldn't. and he has that sort of T.O./keyshawn/sapp type of off-field presence that can sometimes be distracting.
i'd definitely like to see us pick up TJ 'zada, great receiver for deeper threats.
we won't get haynesworth. unless tenn blows it in the 2nd round (after their bye week), or win it all and the team dismantles/he wants more $.

1. I don't think this is our #1 need.
2. We have 3 starting caliber CB's. We don't need another just yet untill Barber hangs em up. And even then we don't need a big time CB. Our CB's are fine if we get pressure up front. Thats why DT is most important.
3. this should be #1
4. Please discuss this in my new thread. I disagree completely.
5. agreed. I think with the right team around him he can win a superbowl, but I don't think he has enough time left in him for us to build that team for him.
fuck no, please...
i dont want him either. im just saying he's a type that would fit. if gruden or whomever coaches, i'd like to see a young guy come in. might be shaky for a year or two, but if we provide a good o-line and keep the defense strong, we can develop someone who's actually worth a shit.

D line and O line are our biggest weaknesses after the coach.
Time to kick Jeremy Trueblood the fuck out of dodge

Trueblood only has 1v1 assignments and is never given help from extra protection because all the help goes to Donald Penn. Yes, Penn is playing well but he is far from an elite LT and has been getting A LOT of help from tight ends and RB's.

which is all good and well but doesnt excuse the multiple penalties he gets every game

The one thing I love about him is also one of his down sides. Hes a very hard playing and emotional guy it seems. As he gains experience he will get better. I think this is only his 2nd or 3rd year. OL's only get better with age.
