Im sure if i dig into it at work i can figure out the answere but its hard to get time when me and my manager have free time. anyways, I have a 401k with my company now and I have had like 3 or 4 contributions so far, its only a little over 500 bucks in there but the company is supposed to match .50 for every dollar of mine, how do companies usually do this? is it right when my contribution goes in then they put there part, or do they wait untill the end of the year and put a bulk amount in or what? just curious because its been like 2 months worth of contributions and they havent put any in

My company matches immediately. They only match up to 3 or 5 % cant remember. But that means if I put in 3% of my gross for that paycheck...say $300 then they match that $300 and it goes into my Fidelity acct which I can check onlne. The matching funds in my case are viewable within about 3-4 days after I get my paycheck.

Do you have a waiting period until you are "vested" or anything like that?

My company also matches immediately, and you get the full value after being with the company for five years.

If you aren't seeing the contributions you should hit up HR and make sure it's all set up correctly imo.

immediately. Look at your paycheck stub. You will see a contribution to the 401 out of your paycheck, then you will probably see a credit back to your paycheck for the same amount. At least this is the way our company and ADP do it.

It doesn't have to be immediately. It doesn't even have to be at all, for the first year you're there. It depends on the company.

Take mine, for instance, will match $750 when you put in $1500. That's it. And to get it:
"You must be employed from January 6th of a year until December 31st of that same year. The company match will be deposited no later than March 31st of the following year."

It's shiesty.. I know. Just go read your policy manual - it's different everywhere.

Profit Sharing FTW!! No company match but the checks and 401k deposit are good at the end of the year especially with 21% last year.

I havent found much our, my managers dont know and hte HR lady comes in after i leave in the morning and leaves before i get back. Not to mention i just quit to move back so i guess i need to make a call haha. I see on my checks where they take out, and i see on my fidelity account where they have put the money in but my account only has what i have deposited.
There supposed to match .50 for my dollar up to like 3000 or something. Knowing this company you probably have to be there over a year or something stupid. They write you up for calling in sick, that goes to show how they are haha

I have a few other 401k questions and i figure ill ask them here instead of making a new thread.

Anyways, I put in 6% of my check and my company is supposed to match .50 for my dollar, so i guess technically 9% is getting put away. At 22 years old would this be a decent amount to be putting or should I be putting a little more? My goal is to be able to enjoy when i retire and not have to worry about when my next SS check is coming and eat top ramen

Good thing, too...because NFW SS will still be around when you hit retirement age.
