What can we do to get this forum a little more active? I browse the TR Photo section every now and then and it's pretty busy over there. I would really like to try and get this forum back up and running. Any ideas?

I was thinking we could...

1. Have a "TF Photography Spotlight" on members once a month. We can have a mini portfolio displayed for the member and provide comments and criticism.

2. Have a "Professional Photography Spotlight" on a photographer once a month. A thread just to show off someone who inspired you to start photography or just to go out and shoot.

3. Start the contests up again.

4. More "How to" like posts.

5. Photoshop techniques?

LMK what you guys think.

I think it would be cool if maybe once a month or maybe every other month we organized different cost efficient "photo outings" around the Tampa/St. Pete area. Places that we can all get into either for free or relatively cheap. I remember looking into a photo day at Big Cat rescue for myself some time ago and the price was just a bit steep for the average joe. I'm thinking parks, preserves, and that sort of thing would be really cool. Then we could create one thread and we could all post whatever we deemed worthy onto the thread.

I'll try and come up with more ideas because I would like to see this forum get more active again. It seems like not so long ago it was booming.

I was also going to suggest a meet up. Other than that, just people should start posting random pictures they have taken.

Not trying to cause trouble or anything, but is there any reason we don't combine the two groups into one on one site or the other? It seems Tampa Racing and Tampa Forums are so closely related that having two groups about the same thing seems repetative.

I'm not sure if the Admins/Owners have thought about combining the sites and just pointing both URLs to the same location either. That would solve the overlap of similar content on both forums and could make browsing a little easier too, maybe even maintenance.

Otherwise, like others said, photo outings are a good way to get people together and then have threads to post their content from that outing.

Maybe this is just me but....
I used to post in this section. A lot. I'm not a professional photographer and I don't try to talk like I am. I used to get tons of constructive criticism and loved getting pointers from all of you on here that are pretty damn good. After a while, most of the better photographers seemed to keep to themselves or only talk amongst themselves and not even reply to others' threads. I personally got sick of coming in here, telling everyone how amazing their work was only to be ignored when I made threads of my own. I never said anything because I personally just didn't care and eventually quit posting in here altogether. I don't even get on TF much these days but just thought I would put in my two cents since it's pretty obvious how the activity level has dropped in here and since you asked... This is just my opinion and I don't mean it in a bitchy way. It's just the reason why I quit posting in the photography section.

Not bitchy at all. I think everyone feels the same way. I eventually went to another website to get criticism because nature/landscape photography just didn't sit well here. I'm pretty sure merging with TR will not happen but we can at least start posting new stuff again. I'd really like to get this forum back up and running and even competing with TR.

I think we need more ARTISTS, not just photographers..

I don't agree on your views that photographers are not artists. However, I do agree that we need more types of mediums than just photography.

+1 . It also seems like there isn't as much traffic on this site like it use to be. I know I'm guilty of it to. I haven't posted in a long time. So If I do something new I will try to contribute

and if someone else post's their work I can help critic it

I too have been guilty of not being that active lately, not that I was ever that active. I just haven't been able to take many shots lately with school and everything going on.

But I again stress the idea of meets, whether once a month or every other month or w/e. An organized meet that happens far enough apart that a good number of us could get work off for, but not so repetitive that they're ALL the time. That would really be awesome.

I occasionally browse this forum because I want to see/discuss. I'm a designer, though, so I'm interested in seeing everything, not just photography.

A good way to start getting more activity could be for people to just post anything they find interesting/cool/inspiring and actually critically discuss it. also encouraging people to post work from all disciplines is a must, IMO.
