Starting to think I went the wrong way
....when I bought my Nikon. It seems like every major camera enthusiast worth his salt buys Canon. I'm assuming that there are lot more accessories for Canon or somehow they just make cameras that are leaps and bounds better than anything else for the same price because anytime I see some amazing photography, it was done with some version of a Canon.
Did I make a huge mistake going with Nikon? What is it about these cameras that you like so much? Is it the lens selection? |

From what I have seen, at least recently, Nikon bodies are better, but the glass is HELLA expensive and less options available. They also dont have as many primes. I would love to get an equivalent of a Nikon 200-400vr for my canon though, the sort of equivalent in the canon world 100-400L IS/USM is a push-pull lens, slower, slower AF, older IS and I hate push-pull zooms. But it costs less than half what the 200-400 costs iirc

Don't fall into that 'the grass is greener' type of thinking. When it comes to dSLRs I'd say about 1% of the picture is the camera. The rest is you and what you do with the picture once you've taken it. I've had both Nikon and Canon and to tell you the truth I went back to Nikon after selling all of my Canon gear. Canons might look better on paper but when I look at my portfolio all of the photos that really stand out to me were shot on Nikon.

![]() I've actually seen some canon users using the new Nikkor 14-24/2.8 FX lens on the full frame Canon cameras. |

I have, I did some shooting at the annual Thanksgiving dinner at my parent's house this year and admittedly, most of the pics didn't turn out very well. I'm still kind of new but the last pics I posted didn't get much traction anyway so I didn't bother posting more.

I did go back and look at them tho and some are awesome, just a little to much sky for me. Do not get discouraged about your camera, you have a better camera than half the population you just need to play with it more and figure it out. Have you read the manual on how to adjust all the settings?

When you get into pro level cameras and glass that's when you face some differences, but the decision which way to go is still very hard - if you read pro forums, lots of people debating constantly on pros on cons of each brand. So, once again, entry level (consumer grate) equipment of both Canon and Nikon are very comparable. Don't sweat it and go have fun ![]() Btw, here is almost 5 years worth of Nikon shots to cheer you up: http://vadim.smugmug.com/ (first few galleries at the top are D700, then few with D300, then D90, then lots of D70, then CoolPix 5700 P&S) |
