Did you get a warranty on it? When I bought my Sigma 10-20 I bought a 5 year replacement warranty on it for a hundred bucks. It seems like a lot but if anything like that happens I bring it in the store and they replace it on the spot. Not bad for 600.00. Plus I'm a fucking klutz. Sorry for your loss, that really really sucks.
Speaking of, does anyone know how to insure camera equipment? My wife and I were talking about it a few days ago. Since I have about 2000+ in equipment (and I know thats not a lot compared to a few on here) I wanted to see if I could get it insured. |

THEY WILL DENY your claim if they find out you have made a single dollar from photograhy using the equipment that they insured. Trust me i know many who have tried to get out the easy way by doing this, and they got burned badly Go with a true photography insurance. Covers liability/damage on shoots as well as theft. and your own mistakes such as dropping or flooding etc... I would suggest googling photo insurance, i am a member at photo.net and i have their insurance package. 495/yearly with $30k for equipment and 50/100k for damages on location etc... click here... http://photo.net/learn/insurance |

I thought the same thing when I dropped my SB-600 a couple of weeks ago. All I did was break the flash tube - easy fix, right? Turns out they want $180-ish dollars to fix it, when a new one is $185+shipping from B&H.
I ordered a new SB-600 because I needed one for last Saturday, and I also ordered a replacement bulb from Nikon at a whopping $8.12 + shipping. It's been a bit of a bitch to take apart the old flash, but now that I've done it I could do it again in ten minutes. The hard part is the desoldering I guess, but I don't see $150+ in labor here. Sorry about the lens. I've been contemplating insurance too, but for $495/yr I could break quite a bit of my stuff and replace it out of pocket. As far as not being able to see anything on the lens, I read an interesting article once that claimed if you tore a small corner off of a post-it note and stuck it on the front of your lens, you wouldn't see it unless you were up past F22. Give it a try, you may be surprised at how much a scratch won't show in your pictures. Last edited by .:Chris:. : 07-15-2008 at 08:57 AM. |
