    Auto insurance recommendations?

I've been with State Farm for quite a while now, and getting hosed on my premium. I've just been too complacent to change carriers. I turn 25 in October and figured it would be a good idea to start shopping around for better rates since it should drop a good amount overall in October. What are your recommendations for insurance companies? I have no points on my license, no ticket in over 5 years and no accidents ever (knock on wood).

if you have good credit too, you should try mercury.

whoever you go with, if you pay 6 months in full, you save about 1 payments worth. (something to keep in mind)

also, turning 25 doesnt really save much for males... 27 to 30 is when you start seeing cost savings related to age. for females it is around 25 in most cases..

Call State Farm and ask how much of a discount you'll be getting when your turn 25. I was in the same boat your are in with State Farm. I was feeling a bit ripped off, but when I turned 25 my discount was much greater than anticipated. I shopped around anyways and other companies didn't quote me cheap enough for me to leave State Farm. They've been too good to me and my family in the past. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

    Just my $0.02.

Yeah I turn 25 in 11 days. You really don't get a huge break. Go to http://insuretampabay.com/
Go there. They saved me a bunch of money on my house and car insurance. There is really good and bad stories about every insurance company. Just don't get anything Citizens related.

I've priced out a bunch of places, State Farm being the best mix of price and service... You get what you pay for, and State Farm gets cheaper the longer you hold the policy

Ive had state farm since I started driving 10 years ago and my insurance rate is dirt cheap. When I turned 25, my rate went down 15%.

these threads are stupid, because there really is no cheaper insurance company, for my roommate, geico was cheaper for him than everyone, but for me progressive was way dirt cheap for me...meanwhile are records are pretty identical, and only 4 months age difference. but our (non comp/coll premiums) were way different. strange as fuck. and my credit is way worse than his and i pay half of what he does but geico wanted to jack me off to the tune of 1200 bucks for 6 months, where he pays 900 and has a brand new car.
bottom line, you have to just shop around...there is no right answer to your question other than shop shop shop shop shop.

hahahhahahahahaahhhaaa, yea if you keep them for 15 fucking years. they still refuse to insure me for less than 1400 bucks. i remmeber in 1998 they wanted to charge me 1400 bucks for 6 months on a 1988 caprice with bare bones minimal insurance. granted i was 18 but fuck...it was cheaper to insure my car in NY state as an assigned risk age group! to this day they still like jacking me off on rates...dont know why either. fucking werid ass company.

It is as Tackleberry said, there is not a good answer to the question. Insurance companies use a combination of your personal rating factors (age, sex, martial status, previous accidents/violations, credit history, zip code, etc.) AND what vehicle you drive...so your best bet is to do the dirty work and call all of them. My guess is that State Farm will be giving you the best though. In addition, the 25 year old discount is usually a myth. I am sure there are some companies that give this discount, but most do not. When people say that insurance gets cheaper at 25, they really should be saying that if you compare what you were paying @ 16 to what you would pay @ 25 there is a huge difference, but most companies will slowly decrease your rates as you age because you become less of a risk as you age. It would be pretty dick if you never had a decrease from 16-25.

and keep in mind that insurance companies will lower their rates for a while to get new customers. Then after several months, their rates will go back up. They may lose a couple customers to the competition (who is also playing the same game) but the number of customers that will stick around and pay the increased rate due to laziness is enough to keep the bigwigs raking in the cash.

You should shop your insurance every term.

I had Geico Ins for about 10 years then switched to Progressive. The only reason why i switched was because Geico pulled my driving record and saw my BS reckless driving ticket and wanted to raise my premium sky high. Mind you the ticket was acquired 2 years ago
