I'm waiting to start my Judicial Policy and Politics final exam so I'll have to be brief.
I'm not lambasting Guiliani for some SNL cross-dressing, in fact I think it shows he is more "human" for being able to have a sense of humor. My personal beef with him is the fact that he is a proponent of gun control, as is evidenced by his interviews and his record as both federal prosecutor and Mayor of New York City. I don't not like Guiliani, I am a New Yorker after all and I think he was as good a mayor as anyone, especially during 9/11 and the aftermath. Guiliani was a mayor who would get out of bed at 3AM to go to a structure fire to support the fire fighters. A great guy, but I have some differences in opinions so I don't believe I would vote for him in a presidential election. He is accused of being a RINO, and more of a liberal, I'm sure you are aware of this. Fred Thompson I believe, would be a good candidate. Sure, I don't agree with everything he says, for example I don't want to see Roe v. Wade overturned, but he has experience as a Senator, he is just as active in politics as Guiliani, and he is more of a classical Republican. Small government, states rights, libertarian kind of Republican. So is Ron Paul, though Paul stresses libertarian more than anything, hell he used to be a Libertarian. this is why I'm torn, I am more Libertarian than anything but I think Thompson might be the better choice overall. Thompson, being an actor, would be an excellent public speaker, something this country could use, especially in the area of the Executive's specialty - foreign affairs. Thompson doesn't second guess himself and he is never vague, he has convictions and he is not afraid to answer questions with a yes or no. He was not afraid to call the immigration "reform" bill for what it was - complete bullshit. I think his leadership qualities, and public speaking qualities, are what this country needs to see in the White House about now... |

Funny that you started this thread. I was just going to start something similar, hoping to get people interested in some of the other candidates besides the front runners.
My vote will go to Mike Huckabee. I never liked a candidate more than I like this guy. http://www.mikehuckabee.com/ |

This election is going to suck...its like picking which peice of shit to step in.
I will not vote for good ol' Rudy, because hes a fucking commie. Seriously, that guy's answer to solving problems is taking away the freedoms that have to do with the problems. I will not vote for Hillary because she's a waste of space. What qualifies that woman as an actual politican? Her views are as bad as Katherine Harris' were. Tell her that theres a PETA rally going on she needs to attend. Obama...eh...he's a little liberal for my tastes - just not a well rounded canidate. And I don't trust him with our white population. I think that guy is more concerned about advancement of minorities than actually leading the country. |

He supports an ammendment to our constitution that defines legal marriage as the union of a man and a woman? What mother fuck? Has this guy ever read the declaration of independance? "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." I don't see any part in there that says, 'Unless you're gay'. Marriage by the church is whatever they want. Marriage by the state is a right to be enjoyed by anyone. I refer you to Loving v. Virginia, Justice Warren wrote, "The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men. " He says he recognizes we need to focus on reforming preventative care. Good job, one of his economists on staff told him the economic feasibility of that. Problem is, nobody told him how the government can help. He's more scared of the government helping with healthcare than he is about gays marrying. Its okay to be against it after hearing the facts...but this guy's statements illustrate that of a person who knows nothing except, "Government healthcare is badzors!!!" I can't go on with this guy, he's making me mad. Maybe he'd make a good secretary of defense. Last edited by BAMF : 07-20-2007 at 05:52 PM. |

No shit. You don't get to lead a country while screaming, "Thug life, niggaz!" and shooting your Glock sideways. He's also INCREDIBLY pro minority. I'm not just talking blacks. All ethnicities and religions. Its great in theroy, but I'm scared that he'll tax our resources with all the new social welfare programs he may set up for them. I'm all for giving a little bit to everyone who pulls their weight...but I just feel he'll want to give too much.

I think Ron Paul is the absolute best example of a true Republican, he's for small government and against welfare, against socialism and universal health care and more for state's rights. He argues that by reducing the role that federal government plays in commerce and finance that there will be less of an incentive for corporations to lobby politicians by borderline bribing them, and that we wouldn't even have to regulate campaigns if we were to minimize the role that politicians play in corporate economics. No subsidies, let the market duke it out, and as the best example of his theory he says that it was the government that helped Ma Bell become a monopoly in the first place, as well as Standard Oil and all those other big corporations back in the day. If we remove the government's ability to tip the scale then free market will take care of itself.
It's an interesting theory, and I would like to see it played out in today's world. |
