Re: A disturbing sight at local gun show (e-mail to tbt* Oct. 21) The e-mail sent to you by 1st Lt. Alfred J. Phillip caught my attention. Obama is trying to walk a fine line between protecting the right to bear arms guaranteed under the Second Amendment and clamping down on more than 30,000 deaths from fire*arms that happen every year in the United States.
The NRA is against any limitations on gun rights, including banning or controlling any kinds of ammunition, even armor-piercing bullets that hunters “desperately” need to kill deer. While the NRA claims it is protecting the rights of hunters and citizens to bear arms, it also is protecting the right of criminals to have easy access to automatic weapons and high-killrate ammunition so they can keep our emergency rooms full of 5-year-old kids caught in the crossfire of turf wars and urban shoot-outs over “respect.” Hunters and law abiding citizens have no need for those types of high*powered weapons and ammunition. The laws Barack Obama supports that the NRA is vehemently against include sensible acts like: Mandatory waiting periods to purchase a gun.
Requiring citizens to actually register their firearms.
Requiring training for gun owners.
Finally, and most importantly, if Jesus were alive, would he be a proud member of the NRA? I don’t think that would promote, as the far right always talks about, Christian values and morals. But looking at the way they and their pundits are trying to smear Obama, it again shows their hypocrisy.

i'm not going to present an argument to it, it's just my belief which im sure 113% of the members on here are opposed to.

i don't see a need for high powered firearms in civilians hands.
or in anybodies hands for that matter.
i'm just not a fan of guns.

i actually do remember the last time i went to the hospital -

it was filled with a bunch of shot up 5 year olds, the doctor said they probably wouldnt make it because they were hit with killrate armor peircing commando exploder ammo

there was a gang war over who controlled the slurpee machine at the 7-11. poor kids - didn't even know what hit them till it was too late - all they wanted were some blowpops

Ok lets get some hard facts into this debate, here are the 2007 murder numbers from the FBI:
Total Murders: 14,831
Murders with guns: 10,086
Handguns: 7,361
Rifles (which includes the "high power" rifles that they want to ban: 450
Shotguns: 455
Knives or cutting instruments: 1,796
Other weapons: 2,095
Hands, fist, feet, etc: 854

So the so called assault weapons have killed just over half as many people as hands and fists, and many times less then other weapons.

Yeah we have a real problem with assault weapons in the United States.

I don't understand the logic that banning certain guns from everyone will keep criminals from 1. getting their hands on them and 2. committing crimes with them. It just makes no sense.

there are bans on certain types of armor percing ammo already, also there is a waiting period for gun purchases in most states/countys.

i also dont see a ton of full automatic weapons around on the streets -most "thug/gangster" criminals carry little .22's and pistols - i dont see too many criminals walking aournd with a SAW249 and some AP ammo shooting up children over "respect".


i've also never seen a hunter wanting some armor peiricing ammo.

Are you a fan of freedom? Or just when it's a freedom you care about?

I'm not a gun nut. I don't own any guns. But just because I don't have a gun hobby interest doesn't mean I want to take someone else's fun away from them. I'd rather address the problem - the criminals - and let the gun enthusiasts enjoy their hobby which I believe they have a right to.

After the Bucs game Sunday a drunk driver got charged with vehicular manslaughter for killing a couple people. Should we outlaw beer now?

The armor piercing ammo angle has got to be one of the most overplayed red herrings by anti gun advocates and only people with no clue about guns buy in to the idea that all rifles(even semi auto) are assault rifles. Someone posted a good video about how people can misinterpret what an assault rifle is in the gun forum.
