really there are very few large gun companies left in the U.S. you have Smith and Wesson, Colt, Springfield Armory, Remington, and Winchester. those are the only companies that could have the potential to have any pull in the government. Yes there are other american gun manufacturers, but they are small companies.

a large number of civilian arms are imported, and the government has continually made it more and more difficult to import firearms. from the Firearm Owners Protection Act, to the '68 import ban to U.S. Sec. 922r to the barrel ban.

The barrel ban makes it illegal to import a barrel that could be used on a full auto firearm, so if a style of firearm say an AR, AK, FAL or a HK91 can be converted to full auto you cannot import a barrel for it. but you can produce barrels in this country for them. the only thing this accomplishes is driving up prices for replacement barrels and makes it more expensive or even possible to build a firearm from a kit if no one produces a barrel for it in the U.S.

Barack Obama voted in 1994 to allow the prosecution of persons who used firearms in their homes in self defense (SB2165). How in the world can you support a person who is in favor of not only allowing a person to be a victim of a violent crime, but then supports the prosecution of that same person, effectively twice vic*timizing someone trying to defend themselves?

Daniel Furlin’s concern about assault weapons is unfounded. There were only 10,000 murders with guns in the United States in 2007, of which only 450 were with rifles. There are so few murders with assault weapons that the FBI doesn’t bother separating them from other rifles.

My letter was much longer, but they cut it down.

I read the letter by Daniel Furlin, his concern about assault weapons and armor piercing ammunition is unfounded. First there are only 10,000 murders with guns in the United States in 2007. Of which only 450 were with rifles, there are so few murders with assault weapons that the FBI doesn't bother separating them from other rifles. Now lets talk about "armor piercing" ammunition. The current law defines armor piercing ammunition by what it's made of, it must be made of a material designed to penetrate armor, these materials are heavy metals like tungsten. The law that Obama supported in the past would define armor piercing as "any ammunition capable of piercing body armor." That doesn't consider the fact that there are many levels of body armors, some so low that they barely protect against some of the least powerful guns on the market. So under the Kennedy amendment that Obama supports would ban virtually all ammunition.

I don't see why people don't realize that restricting weapons is only restricting your protection.

Purely my opinion... Criminals wouldn't second guess and would be more apt to pursue crimes on an unarmed civilian as opposed to thinking twice before pursuing a possibly (CWP) armed civilian. I think CWPs should be issued to non-felons at 18; if the individual chooses to take the proper safety/shooting programs and wants to bear arms.

Registration? Fuck that. Most of these crimes are committed with stolen hand guns that are untraceable. And as far a limiting ANY weapons, I stand with the, "If our gov't can have it, so can we."

It boggles my mind that people so willingly get proper fucked.
