Welcome to the hobby, it is fun! I wish more people would get out and get a chance to just shoot some cans/targets in the woods! Hell... I wish I could do it more often!
Kind of odd seeing this forum has changed from a street racing to general nonsense, and jaxstreetscene is gone anyways though...
Bought a Mosin as a first rifle the other week, probably a bad time to pick up this hobby but whatever.
First time shooting in 12 years and first time ever using anything more than a 22lr. Nothing spectacular but i was happy i nailed a soda can at 50yds on the first shot. Rest of the day i was about 1 for 3 on it. Definitely was a blast i see how people get addicted to this.

That's a helluva first gun, almost the polar opposite of a .22LR, lol.
Congrats, let the addiction begin.
I love recoil.
Mosin was my first gun too, welcome to the cool kids club![]()

Welcome to the hobby. The shooting sports needs as many new converts as possible.
Don't discount the value of training with a .22
Yeah everyone makes it sound like they are some uncontrollable beast, I got a little bruise from 40-60 shots but they arent that bad. One of my friends had an ar15 wannabe 22lr it was really fun to burn through 20rds in seconds. A shame the real deal 223 are so much $
Yeah my old pile of garbage is almost roadworthy again but im over the go fast bug. Movin to texas due to the wife gettin a job there in march tryin to drive it there. Thats what got me to start shooting. Both of us have wanted to start but now we are moving to the border the timeline got more urgent. Ccw and 12g in the closet time.
I hear you can own an unregistered class three firearm in that area of the us, but you have to be a citizen of Mexico and be involved in a cartel to qualify.
I hear the m44 Mosin Nagant has a little more kick to it, but I agree with TNathe, my synthetic stock 18.5" barrel Mossberg 500 12G would make you not wanna shoot any more that day after one 3" slug, a real punisher. I added a limbsaver recoil pad and its a little more forgiving, but not much.

the only outdoor ranges i can think of are Tenoroc in Lakeland, Wyoming Antelope Club in Clearwater, Manatee gun and archery club just east of the Bradenton drag strip, and Hernando Sportsman club. Im sure i probably missed one or two
