Over the counter shit (Benadryl, Nyquil) always leaves me feeling nasty the next day even after 8 hours or more of sleep. I have Ambien now for occasional use but after exactly 7 hours I wake up and while I feel great I can't stay in bed.
If you have insurance your best bet it to try some other sleep aids that mess with your seratonin levels rather than a sedative like Ambien/Lunesta. It's a real hit and miss type situation though.. instead of anti-anxiety (Xanax) stuff possibly a mild anti depressant would a better fit. |

Ask your doctor for some muscle relaxers, Soma to be exact.
They aren't nicked named the Soma Coma for nothing. Seriously, when I can't sleep at all, which is a lot, I have terrible insomnia all of the time, I take 1 Soma and I'm out. I get them every month, but I only take them when I can't sleep. If I took them the way my doc prescribes, 4 a day, I would just be asleep consonantly, they knock me the fuck out, and I know tons of other people who have the same reaction to them too, take 1, pass out for the next 8 hours. And they do not have that yucky groggy feeling the next morning, I wake up feeling like I had the best night's sleep ever. If all else has failed, and it sounds like it has, prescription sleep aids not working, ask your doc for muscle relaxers, they work really well for pain relief and as an excellent sleep aid. |

I don't agree with the not eating .. I always want to take a nap after a killer dinner just a couple good ideas.. sometimes you have to go back to basics like when dealing with kids.. establish a routine , limit your energy food/drink intake.. make sure the room is completely dark.. No lights from computers or other rooms / windows leaking in.. eventually you will get in a pattern. 6 hours a night is a good amount as long as you sleep for the 6 hours. I get 5-6 normally. My biggest problem with not sleeping is I have too much on my mind. I began writing EVERYTHING down .. even kept the notepad near the bed if I had something come up in my mind that I cannot forgot, I would get up and write it down .. Otherwise I would worry ALL night about it and not sleep.. even if it was something as simple as getting more dog food the next day. Last edited by 1BADP71 : 10-17-2009 at 03:55 PM. |
