Water Softener questions...

Hey guys so I bought a home and it has a water softener. Does any of the water softener salt you can buy at home depot/lowes work or is there some kidn of special type

Also, how much do you put in at a time. The salt comes in 40 lb bags, but that doesn't seem like a lot. Any info as always is appreciate.d

Read the manual for the softner. Set the regeneration schedule to fit the size of your family.

Then once that's complete...

Are you on well water or city? If city, then get the yellow bag of salt from Home Depot. If well water, get the orange bag of salt with the iron-out.

Fill the unit to about 6" from the top, it should last 3-4 months on that easily if you have a small family.

What Joe said, you want the thing to regenerate fairly often but not so often as to use a ton of water and salt.

So far my $350ish Kenmore is working great........ search this forum and you'll find another thread with more details on this.
