Best Credit Union?

What is the best credit union that is available for all Tampa residents? I'm looking for the best in checking, cd's, and mortgage rates. Any info would be appreciated.

I am pretty happy with GTE federal credit union

I hear mcdill was good, but they either got bought out or changed their name to Grow?

MacDIll changed their name to Grow Financial, and honestly (besides the bright ass green card) I like it better. It has a much better online banking setup than MacDill ever had.

I hate gte, I just closed my account with them.. I assume if you have alot of money you wont have any issues, seems like they would charge me a fee every time I breathed the wrong way. Im also broke as a joke right now, Although with Washington mutual I never get any fees and do the same things

I mean I cant seem to remember any type of fees, but then again, I dont bounce checks and shit like that.

I dont pay any fees for checking, and you can use the debit/atm card at (most) ANY credit union ATM and have no fee. Even out of state. If you use it at a normal bank it is 1$ + whatever fee THAT banks atm charges. I dont think there is any sort of minimum balances either, but like you said, i'm not broke and usually have more than, say $50 in my bank, lol

I use GTE, i'm pretty happy with them aside from the recent rates increase on all outgoing wires and everything else they charge a fee on... >

Its sad, im very broke as you have read (im sure) the housing market sucks and I am in construction. Anyways, The one that got me the most is, I would put my money in. the next morning I would log on and pay my car or mtg or something and when it came out, they would charge me an "nsf fee" of like 25 bucks for everything. If I didnt wait however long for the money to officially clear the bank I got that fee. That shit added up quick. Wamu I can do the same thing and they cover it all, as long as it shows I made that deposit I don't get any fees. Also, gte wont pay stuff that will put you negative, it charges like 30 bucks and rejects it. I know I shouldn't go negative, but shit happens. Wamu will cover it and charge me.

Yeah, if you can maintain a "higher" amount in the bank, then GTE is great. but i'm in the same boat as tim tim tim... the moment you start to get low, you get nailed with fees and they don't do a lot to help when you present your story to them. WaMu seems to be a pretty good way to go even if they are a bank...

GTE doesn't care about "low" they care about "no" as in no money in the account to cover for the things you bought. Those bastards!

and just an FYI for you all out there, NSF means iNSufficient Funds

it means your ego wrote a check your body cant cash

and mcdill, or grow or any of those other banks do that shit too

I like Suncoast Schools FCU. I deposit checks and cash alot of times after hours in the drive-thru ATM and its instantly in there. Like I used to cash my friend's paychecks through the atm at like midnight before we would go out. Just have them sign it, deposit it in my account and withdrawl the funds immediately. And I never have any fees and never really did when I was broke.

You have very little life experience then I would think, as I have seen many financially secure and well off people have this happen to them. All it takes is a joint account, and a husband and wife doing errands to overdraw an account.

It doesn't mean that they don't have the money, it simply means that their checking account was not reconciled with each other before the two people wrote checks.

NSF also does not mean iNSufficinet Funds, it would mean:

NSF Non Sufficient Funds or NSF Not Sufficient Funds

There are very few banks that will not charge a member for doing this, and rightly so, the best way in my opinion to avert this from happening is through linking or backing your checking account with either a savings account, and or a credit card account.

How does it mean my ego wrote a check my body cant cash? wouldnt that mean I Was talking shit and paid the consequence? I cant say I have ever had that happen. It means that I am 20 with a mortgage, car payment, normal bills to go with a house and 2 adults+2 dogs. It also means that I made an unwise decision to buy a house at 19 not knowing shit about the economy (at the time I was working dawn to dusk making 95+ hours a week) and obviously since then, the housing market has hit a bit of a brick wall. I still have never had a late payment and haven't had to sell a single possession to keep it that way. so if living paycheck to paycheck right now until I can switch to do what I really want to do in life and keep the bills payed on time in the mean time is a stupid decision, please do let me know a better way.

Actually it they do care about low, if I had 300, Deposited my check of say, 1500. the day after I deposit I go to pay my car (400) they would charge me the fee. I really don't see how that means no money, 300 was there, 1500 is now there, I don't see why im getting the fee. Shit, with wamu I can run negative, put the same 1500 check in there, pay my mtg that same day i deposite and they cover it all.
