I feel southernplayalisticcadillacmusic, ATLiens and Aquemini were all their prime. Lyrically neither of them have fallen off. Their beats have. Organized Noize fell the fuck off and Dre's beat have slipped a lot as well. I still think Outkast's catalog of music is much better than Run DMC's. Run DMC's is just more popular. Oh and I liked The Infamous, but Hell on Earth was my shit. "Got out the airport, the Mobb picked me up in the truck. Jewelry chunky, like fuck I ain't scared to get stuck."

Depends on the mood what the favorite is. Older stuff will always be better. Eminem will always be good. just as Dre and Snoop, LL, 2Pac... .. it goes on and on really..
Nobody has mentioned that they listened to Bone Thugs or Cypress Hill yet. I never cared for Biggie or Puffy . Last edited by 1BADP71 : 09-02-2009 at 12:43 AM. |

All depends how long you've been listening and like everyone said all matter of personal preference. Just like Rock and Roll and their 30 million fucking different off springs based on that. Hip-Hop was the root, which then all these other crazy other off springs came off it right ?
So anyway to me there's no favorite but there are some notables including groups KRS-One NAS DAS-EFX Dela Soul Wutang - Pretty much all of their albums with the exception of a handful of songs in between. No Cap, OdB, or the later GfK and Raekwon, their shit has turned like the rest of the garbage you listen today. Mobb Deep These two are just guilty pleasures. Ice Cube - His old shit is great. Dr Dre both pre, and post the eminem dealio he's remained pretty solid. That's really it, I mean 50, Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z they all made great and catchy songs, but to me when listening hip hop is whatever you want it to be, some days is about the beat, the progression of the song, and lyrics, or a combination of all. Mobb Deep, right, all they rapped about was gangbanging shit, but man their beats, scores, and samples were Mobb Deep, you could be listening to any song and their beats were recognizable. Anyway, that's my take on it. |

im really surprised theres only a little mention of Eminem..
im sure ill get flamed for this but whatever..i think hes simply the best..nobody can do what he does imo...hes genius..i really think he takes rap to a new level i guess Jayz has to be mentioned..when u bite from the best of the best..why not be considered the best?..flame again but i cant give him that much credit..ive heard all the shit he bit..most recent that i know of was eminem's "what do i think of suc cess it sucks etc" plus em straight ripped Renegade and he laid his verses first biggie flowed very smooth ..but hes so laid back when he spits that im just not like..real into it ..favorite song was probably suicidal thoughts shits gangster Pac for his anger and how real he was Outkast is great Nas from illmatic to stillmatic greatness lot of good shit out there i think that its to personal tho to really be able to say..its like personal preference or what fits you more.. i really relate to everything Em says so i dont think theres anything greater but someone who doesnt think about bitches like that or isnt as fucked in the head might think its garbage..or if u dont see the humor in some of his shit or even the double meanings ..just dont see the genius in him..and being real as fuck..love it.. |

^ i suppose but i enjoy it still...i know his newest stuff isnt as good as his older shit but its still great imo..just like crazy stuff people dont think of ..like My darling is crazy..his lyrics are genius even still
the thing i dont get from him that i use to get is the lines that you'd just sit back be like OMG that shit was sick..which i dont get much from him anymore but hardly EVER get it from anyone else small rhymes that are simple but just clever...like this "Went to bible class with a gun Blasted a nun Fuck hell, Satan sent my ass to the sun" or "I strike a still pose and hit you with some ill flows that don't even make sense, like dykes usin dildos" simple rhyme but meaningful..i love creativity like that and of course theres some shit that just flows so fucking good when u try to read the lyrics u get tongue tied...and he's real..tells it like it is whether shit talking someone else or him self.. and u say no style or class? style..he does have and its all his own..class? come on what rapper has class? i mean Pac would spit in peoples faces jump guys etc and act out all the time..but still respected and a legend.. but u see him on a "biography" or something of the sort and u see a total different person..so judging him like that..cant classify him as not one of the best.. to describe the best u describe their raw talent and skill thatd kinda be like saying Tom Brady isnt a great QB cause he's an ass off field? not that he is..but if he was you cant take away that hes a great QB and lyrically Em kills it...i doubt u can find a rapper/hip hop artist that can compare to him lyrically..whether you like what he says or not.. I don't listen to much, but I think Eminem and Marshall Mathers are different people.
Em is good to listen to when drinking, bullshitting and hanging out. Marshall reminds me a lot of 2Pac, but without so much social charge. It's a guy telling it like he sees it to an audience in an amazing, well-produced and well-thought medium. I like Marshall a lot on a musical, lyrical, and ideallistic level. I like Em because it's fun. |

if my memory serves me correct, 2pac is the best selling rapper worldwide, to this day. there was alot you can say about him, he had his angry side, and his compassionate side. if you don't like him, you haven't heard enough of his material.
biggie had such a smooth flow and delivery that it's hard for most to even get into his songs. most his music was about "gangsta" shit anyway, so that killed alot of the potential audience. ^E-40 -really? i feel like he fell off years ago. outkast has been holding the south down for so long it's crazy, alot of people dont like the direction they've taken lately but, if you've heard some of the songs they've done recently, you'll know they still got it. jay z may have bitten from alot of rappers, but you can't overlook his abilities, flow, lyricism, hit after hit, his entrepr-however you spell it-ship. to qoute jay z "I'm not a business man, I'm a business, man!" LL's early stuff is timeless, he fell off after he started focusing more on the ladies, with good reason. dudes dont buy records, ladies do. (thats why plies is as popular as he is) run dmc laid the groundwork, hands down. nas is one of the greatest lyricists of all time, thats why he doesn't have that big of a fanbase. he's deeper than the average rapper. i see lupe as a future nas, lupe's metaphors are soo deep, you don't even hear em. eminem is great lyrically, but i think thats about where it ends. his flow is rediculous, but he lacks versatility. he makes the same 4 songs. |
