Here is a list of the common variables.

$vitals - vitals module
$bulletins - bulletins module
$status - status module
$rating - ratings module
$winks - winks module
$visitors = visitors module
$groups = groups module
$blogs = blogs module
$profile = profile module
$friends = friends module
$comments = comments module

$default_pic - users default picture relative URL
$user_name - users name
$user_id - users id

$menu - the plain html for the image menubar under your avatar

$profile_text - plain text
$interest_text - plain text
$dislike_text - plain text
$movie_text - plain text
$music_text - plain text
$tv_text - plain text
$hero_text - plain text
$book_text - plain text

$vitals_text - vitals info without the avatar image and name
$friends_vert - your top friends arranged vertically
$friends_num - number of friend you have

if you dont want the default 'container' around a module, append a '_clean' to the variable name to get the clean output. Ex. $friends_clean

When you look at the "template" box, when you are in edit profile..you will see:the ones in white, what they stand for are the ones in yellow. If you delete the "$vitals" then the box on your profile that say "vitals" will disappear. Delete $winks...all of your winks will be gone. Change the order of them, it changes the order on your profile.

If you want to remove the box,that says "friends" ..."vitals" ect....then change "$friends" to " $friends_clean"..I have removed my vitals and my winks boxes...this is what it looks like..notice in the upper left corner there isn't the grey box that say vitals.
on the bottom picture I have left $vitals and $winks alone and the grey boxes are there.
