Rays 09-10 Offseason Thread
The Resign Kapler for 50,000 more than last season.
They resign Jim Hickey (Pitching coach). For what reason no one knows. They fire our hitting coach, justifiably so, and instead of hiring Rudy Jaramillo who would have taken this team over the top they sign Derek Shelton. I don't hate Shelton, but Jaramillo would have made our young hitters ten times better. The offseason is not starting off well. How Jim Hickey still has a job I have no idea. |

They are doing what they are supposed to be doing! Being a crummy Tampa sports team.
When they went to the world series I was furious! I said to myself "This is not the way a team from Tampa is supposed to be! No athlete in this town is allowed to be a winner until at least 20-30 years of losing." I am glad we are back in the proper pecking order.

Only thing I'd look for the front office to do this season is get some more bullpen depth and try to unload Burrell. Last edited by 25psi : 10-29-2009 at 01:54 PM. |

Named for Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated, this is a negative forward indicator for pitcher workload. Verducci, who called this the 'Year After Effect,' found that pitchers under the age of 25 who have 30-inning increases year over year tend to underperform. Will Carroll independently found that pitchers who break the "Rule of 30" tend to get injured. Carroll renamed this 'rule' the Verducci Effect in honor of the man who initially found the evidence. |

I'm ok with Kapler, but I want an every day 8 man fielding unit, and have Kapler and the others do pinch hit/pinch fielding duty late in games.
i'd even be ok with giving kapler a shot in RF and in the lineup now that zobrist is gonna be full time at 2B. they could even unload burrell and do a bit of a rotation with the DH...dont necessarily need one guy, but it is nice to have a big power hitter as the DH and who is too slow to field.
