Farewell to an Icon...

Mr. Two Bits, or George Edmondson Jr. from Tampa, Florida, is an iconic football fan and cheerleader of the Florida Gators football team.

Before the beginning of University of Florida home football games located in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Mr. Two Bits comes to midfield wearing his signature yellow shirt with a blue and orange tie to lead the crowd in the "two bits" cheer. Mr. Two Bits silences the crowd by blowing a whistle and holding up a sign which reads "2 Bits." Once the crowd has drawn silent, Mr. Two Bits points to the crowd which signals the beginning of the cheer and the fans begin to cheer:

Two Bits!
Four Bits!
Six Bits!
A Dollar!
All for the Gators, Stand up and Holler!

The cheer began when Edmondson attended a Florida game in 1949 against his alma mater, the Citadel. The Gators were losing badly, so to boost their morale, Edmondson led them in a cheer about adding up two bits (25-cent pieces). Though Edmondson was never a student at UF, the University has named him an honorary alumnus of the school, and he has claimed it as his new alma mater.

He is set to retire from his cheerleading days at the end of the 2008 Florida football season. Florida will hold a special ceremony prior to the UF/Citadel game in 2008 to "officially" retire Mr. Two Bits.

lol, pass the kool-aid please. if the gators lost to the citadel, not only would "2 bits" keel over and die from a coronary after the game, but there would be shit tons of UF fans on suicide watch. hell i think i would be too, it would spell the end of the world. maybe if snipers took out tebow, harvin, demps, spikes, and rainey before the game...ok no, the gators would probably still win.

The world will also end if Michigan wins in the 'shoe, or if USF wins at home to an overrated Huskies team.
