Would it be worth it "income wise" to go from being an installer to IT? I don't want to know anyone's pay. Its definitely a step up from crawling underneath a trailer in Hudson!

right now, I just got my Installation tech course in ( I applied for it 4 months ago) to become an installer 2.. I flipped around some pages and they are talkin about protons, electrons, magnetic fields, using fractions.. I never knew cable was this intense. I cant wait to learn this stuff and then (if im still waiting for an opening in IT) tell the customer about all these great things that make up cable TV!! WOOT!

Yea customers love when you use technical terms like modem, and power cable instead of "that box" and "the wire that shocks me when I lick it".

Probably not, I think most of the hiring done at BHN is internal and I don't know if they pay that great. I was making decent money as a lead when I was working nights, it was pretty chill at nights too....with the exception of a few crazy/drunk people that just cuss out a rep and then ask to speak to a supe. Those calls were always fun though

I'm definitely doing better here than I was at BHN though plus there always seemed to be rough office politics at that place. For the life of me, I couldn't get to level 4 through one of my supes...then I went to a different shift and got transferred to a different supe.

I was a lead within 6 months (thanks Dante). If I hadn't gotten that lead position, I wouldn't have gotten a NOC tech job that I wanted and I wouldn't have gotten where I am now. Things snowballed from 2 years of working at BHN and gradually but slowly got a LOT better.

If you're good you can make more dough per hour ($20+) doing installs than most entry desk jobs at BHN. And by GOOD you must be a good balance of speed and precision because if you spend half your time doing gobacks on your jobs it negates it all.

Business phone installs is a growing section as well. I'd just get your foot in the door any way you can and move around once inside.

Service techs only make 11 an hour? I Just started as a service tech and I make a bit more then that. I would like to eventually get into head end work. Obviously that would take quite a while and a good bit of school but im only 22. I have plenty of time for free school and experrience. For now my goal is just DM

yeah, 11 bucks.. thats what the guy told me I would make.. but then we would get bonuses. I rarely get a go-back..Its always some dumb bitch that seems to always press the (Video Source) button at the bottom of the remote and says there's no picture. Its hard to get more jobs, there's not a lot of work here in Pasco. I get 4 jobs a day..2 triple Reco's and 2 box jobs. Last year was a good year.. but now that they took away codes and want us to do more on the job, it uses up more time.

Yea, he got hired on as a supe when I started there like 4 years ago. Like I said, if I didn't get switched to his team, I probably wouldn't have a real IT job like I do now.

That sucks, Transfer down to hillsborough. I dont know what the other service techs make but im a good bit above 11 and by the sound of how much work your getting it wouldnt be a bad move. We also can work whatever over time we want, have the on call extra pay and o/t that goes with it

Thats not a bad idea.. Ive been wanting to move back to brandon for a while. Ive been in spring hill for about 2 years now and the pay scale up here is low! And of course I had to adjust to the lower income and now Its hard to pick back up and move. Its definitely a good decision though.
