Microsoft Windows Server Update Services

I just set one of these up (it's still in testing). Pretty nice especially within an AD environment. Anyone else set one up and deploy one yet? It's pretty amazing so far as the speed of the downloads, as opposed to hitting up updates.microshaft.com though. 1708 updates for WinXP in its library, not bad for 8 years.

The best thing that I saw out of it was that with IE7, the clients don't get the pop up screen asking for permission to install, acceptance of the EULA, or TOS, etc.
Pretty nice being able to have updates automated when and if you want them to be pushed. The only thing that I wish they could include would be a way to push the updates from the server to the clients - as its all pretty reactive, not very proactive from what I can see so far.... |
