What are your thoughts on this phone? i am thinking about pre-ordering this

Its rumored to be offered on T-mobile when it comes out. I am due for an upgrade so I have been keeping my eye on it. Its about the size of a G1. Kinda disappointing but I want to see and feel it before I say I don't like it. The maemo software looks sweeeet.

They are calling it a computer with phone capabilities. I like that, but only if it is going to be a powerhouse. With a 600mhz cpu and 1 gig of ram (only 256 megs of actual ram, the rest is virtual) I don't see that happening.

^Maybe not a powerhouse but still pretty potent imho. I don't really think its a computer with phone capabilities though, its a really powerful phone.

If it ran Android I might be interested. I am too much of an app whore now to fuck with anything but my iPhone at this point.

It's a loonix based phone, and you guys don't think you would be able to run the AOSP on it?

From what I've seen a lot of the more hard core tech nuts are happy in the pants over this one versus Android built devices (the Maemo reportedly is more OS friendly than the AOSP).....

thats a shitload of power. The iphone 3GS runs the same 600mhz processor and 256MB of ram with NO virtual memory and no graphics acceleration(it has a proprietary 720p playback but no one can write software to use it but apple). The n900 has h264 and openGL acceleration in addition to virtual memory which will speed things up greatly assuming they implement it correctly.

Throw onto that there is already a giant Maemo dev community for the N800 and N810 who will naturally be porting apps from older maemo versions and open source development and I'd say we have a winner.

Can't wait to see if/when t-mo lists it for sale. I'm still using a BB Pearl (8100). I am pretty sure I could use the upgrade.

the problems with the n97 were fixed with a patch that came out...

i tried ordering the n900 yesterday night and it said the auth failed... since im selling my sister the n97 she said put the n900 on her credit card and just give her the difference... so im like cool whatever so i did. auth failed 2 times so im like wtf i called nokia and they tried. then they were like oh your on the black list for 3-5days and cant order anything until then. so then my dad tries 2 of his cards... same deal... doesnt fucking help that "marie" from who the fuck knows where doesnt know shit...

So after they black listed you (why did they do this again?) you would still buy from them?

they did it because their "new" system of paying thought i was using a stolen credit card. i mean i respect that but once you call someone they should be able to over write it. i had my sisters CC information and i had it being shipped to my place of work since shipping is usually quicker if its going to a business. come to find out they didnt put my name on the list but the home address... so the other credit cards i tried just said auth failed too... they needa take off the selection of billing address is different then the shipping address, thats where the problem stemmed from...

so i ordered it through amazon. and saved a $100...
