Also, feeling the burn from ATi's release, nVidia dropped prices of the 280 by $100. You can get them on Newegg right now for a little over $500. There was even talk of several of the card manufacturers nearly biting the dust because they stocked up for high demand and didn't expect the ATi release to be so successful. The price change should be official on all of the 2xx cards by Monday.

*bump*
I think ATi has nVidia crouched and crying in the corner right now. nVidia dropped the price of the 280 by $200 since I posted this thread and HardOCP just reviewed the 4870x2 in crossfire: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...hlbnRodXNpYXN0 I debating about waiting until the 4870x2 comes out to get a new machine. With this big of a price drop, it seems like an ideal time to buy. (also, look at the power consumption chart */bump* |

The current state of relations between Intel and nVidia are hurting at the moment.
Nvidia is saying: "Anything you can do, I can do better!" Intel is saying: "Fuck you". AMD is saying: "Mwahahaha, inner strife amongst the competition, and more R and D money from Ati's latest and greatest." Ati is saying: "Fuck why are globbed up with AMD again?" |

At least those of us that used to be big fans of AMD are hoping. Now that nvidia thinks that they can be a competitive processor maker, Intel is getting quite butt hurt about it, and skewing what used to be a strong alliance in the industry. |

I do not particularly like Intel, however AMD is falling far behind.

Intel quad cores are actually 2 dual cores packaged together, Where as AMD's is a "true" quad core. A performance hit is incurred when the 2 seperate dual-core cpus need to communicate with each other. However fast inter-thread communication is not practical on highly parallel processing so its kind of a moot point. Google is your friend.

excuse me for not knowing this, but technically wouldn't two dual-core processors work better than 4-single core processors would? less communication?
i was made to believe that a "dual-core" processor was two silicon chips that communicate using L1 bands which technically makes it one processor, not two. so this one processor is operating at 2x what the rating is. so then if u have two of these communicating at a FSB, wouldnt that be faster than 4 cores communicating at a FSB? |

ahh ok
so then these new home motherboards that are coming out that support two separate processors, these should truly be faster than a dual-core computer then? (edit talking about if u have 2 single core processors in 2 separate socket slots vs. a dual core in 1 socket slot Last edited by travisHAZE : 07-19-2008 at 01:28 AM. |
