I had alot of connection issues at our town house, but I think it was mostly related to old wiring and cables outside, and stuff inside being 15 years old+ aswell. The final things that drove me to get rid of it was that I technically qualified for the 15/2 service, I had the right services except they were on 2 diff bills because my work pays for my internet. Its still billed to me, it just goes on my corp amex so i can expense it easier. I couldnt get the 15/2 over a stupid technicality and that, added to the fact that Verizon was cheaper made me switch. It wasnt until I had the Fios that I realised just how superior the service was to what BHN provides. All the way from the people I talk to on the phone, to setting up the appointment, to not having to take 4-8 hours off work because the tech "might" arrive sometime between 8 and noon (usually about 2 pm), to the install being flawless and just plain awesome.. to the actual reliability of the service being totally amazing. BHN didnt provide me with the same feeling that I was getting a good thing for a great price with great service. In fact they were often inept and didnt know jack when I called in, to rude, to shoddy with their service times and the work they did outside my house. And not being able to give me the 15/2 because of a technicality was just plain dumb and I still cant believe their internal systems are that fucked up. |

So my GF has not had TV, or internet for 4 days, on any of the 3 DVR boxes she has. She called verizon to tell them they need to check the line into her townhome as the neighborhood just installed a fence behind her place, and it hasn't worked since then, more than likely they cut the cable while installing the fence. They tell her they are sending someone out for the internet, AND someone out for the TV. How retarded is that? Can't they just "ping" her box, see that they aren't getting anytype of response, and realize a cable is cut? And why 2 people? It's a waste, only one needs to come out and fix the line.
Sorry FIOS fans, but just got to tell it how it is. |

My rant with Verizon is that they just raised their monthly service costs to new subscribers $3 (7.6%) beginning in January. While BHN continues to provide better service for the same price and in some cases lowering costs, is this to be an expected trend from this competitor? My wallet sure hopes so. |

No charge. They came out today, fixed in no time. I don't know what they did, I'll find out later and let you know, but no charge. She was out of service for over 10 days, but that was her fault as she never called them, and never called them back when they called.

and that's why bhn doesn't pay thier techs for shit and can't afford to do a fiber project like verizon. Think about it, bhn is eating the cost of fixing the cabloe because your neighbor was a dumb ass and didn't call to have the cables located before he dug. Do you think bhn is just absorbing that cost???? NO they are passing it on to the customer and thier own employees. Verizon charges the at fault person for 2 reasons, 1. so that they don't have to pass the cost on to someone who did nothing wrong. 2. To remind the at fault person to call before you dig. If their was no penalty then they wouldn't care if they cut a cable but throw in a bill for alot of $$$ and they'll remember next time....not to mention they will tell their friends about getting a $575 bill and those friends will think twice when they dig.
This part is just speculation, but there may be a chance that the charge for the repair is federally(sp) mandated. Verizon is regulated by the FCC which means they have to abide by certain guidlines and one of those could be that they charge for a repair of this nature....bhn is not federally regulated. verizon has had to get special permission from the fcc to put advertisements for dsl and fios on the side of their own work vehicles.....odd but the fcc is wierd like that. On a side note this fcc regulation means that any crime committed against verizon is a federal offense, not that they would really pursue it, but nailing up signs to phone polls, going into distribution nodes, and cutting their cables can all fall under trespass and destruction of property on a federal level. like I said though I doubt they would do anything for these little things just a bit of trivia......but stealing copper cables or ripping the wires out of a distibution node would definately get their attention. |

Everything you just said is the reason BHN has an HFC network and not Fiber to the premises; and then some. You got the wording wrong, but your thinking along the right lines. BHN uses HFC because it CAN afford to absorb the cost of repairing copper vs. fiber. Time will tell how much more costly those few extra yards of fiber will prove to be.
You better believe that the customer will much more likely forfeit their service than cough up for that kind of repair, intentional or otherwise. E-bay wouldn't exist otherwise. |
